Find and Eliminate Wasted Ad Spend

One of the most common sources of wasted budget in Google Ads is simple: your ads are showing up for searches that have nothing to do with what you sell. Adsroid MCP lets Claude find this waste and fix it in the same conversation — no manual search term report, no spreadsheet, no back-and-forth between analysis and action.

The problem this solves

Google Ads keyword targeting is rarely perfect on its own. Broad and phrase match keywords especially tend to trigger ads on irrelevant or low-intent search terms over time, quietly draining budget on clicks that were never going to convert. Left unchecked, this adds up — and most advertisers only catch it during a periodic audit, if at all.

Example prompt

“Find search terms that are wasting budget on my Search campaigns and clean them up.”

From this single sentence, Claude will:

  1. Pull the search term report for the relevant campaigns over a chosen date range
  2. Identify low-intent or irrelevant terms — high spend or clicks with no conversions, or terms clearly unrelated to your offer, cross-checked against your project’s Business Context to judge relevance accurately
  3. Show you what it found before acting — the specific terms, how much they’ve cost, and why they were flagged
  4. Add them as negative keywords, at the right level (campaign or ad group), once you confirm

Going further

You can scope this as tightly or as broadly as you want:

“Just show me the worst offenders in my Brand campaign, don’t add anything yet.”

“Check search terms across my entire account for the last 90 days and clean up anything with more than €20 spent and zero conversions.”

“Check if any of my existing negative keyword lists are missing something obvious.”

Claude will also check what’s already excluded — via your existing negative keyword lists — before suggesting new ones, so you’re not told to exclude something you’ve already handled.

Why this beats a manual audit

A manual search term audit means exporting the report, scrolling through hundreds of rows, manually judging relevance term by term, and then going back into Google Ads to add exclusions — often postponed for weeks because it’s tedious. Here, Claude does the judgment call using your actual business context, shows you exactly what it’s proposing before touching anything, and executes the fix in the same conversation.

Tips for better results

  • Set a threshold if you have one in mind (“anything with zero conversions and more than €15 spent”) — otherwise Claude uses reasonable defaults based on your account’s typical costs.
  • Ask to review before acting if you’d rather approve each exclusion yourself: “List what you’d exclude, but don’t add anything until I confirm.”
  • Run this periodically, not just once — search term waste reappears as new queries trigger your keywords over time. A monthly check is a good habit.
  • Working across multiple client Projects? Name the client or Project explicitly so Claude analyzes the right account (see Understanding Projects).
